Novato Institute for Somatic Research and Training
Founded by Thomas Hanna and continued by Eleanor Criswell Hanna, the Novato Institute has long been the home of Hanna Somatic Education.
Following Eleanor Criswell Hanna’s death, the Novato Institute will no longer conduct certification trainings. Future trainings formerly associated with the Institute will move to a new organization led by Susan Koenig and Phil Shenk.

International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association (ISMETA)

The umbrella professional body for the somatic movement field since 1988. ISMETA approves somatic movement training programs, maintains the Registered Somatic Movement Educator and Therapist registry (RSME and RSMT), and offers a Locate a Practitioner search. Founded by Martha Peterson, author of Move Without Pain, Essential Somatics teaches Clinical Somatic Education in the tradition of Thomas Hanna. It offers two certification tracks: the Essential Somatics Movement Teacher Training (ESMT) for group movement teachers, and the 600-hour Clinical Somatic Education Training leading to the Certified Clinical Somatic Educator (CCSE) credential, which is recognized by ISMETA. Somatic Movement Center (Sarah Warren)
